Florida Hurricane Roof Checklist

A field-tested checklist from Matata Roofing's storm response crews. Follow it before the next named storm and again after — it protects both your roof and your insurance claim.

Before the storm

  1. Photograph every slope of your roof (timestamped, for insurance).
  2. Clear gutters and downspouts.
  3. Trim overhanging branches within 6 feet of the roof.
  4. Tighten loose fascia, soffit, and roof vents.
  5. Verify hurricane deductible, ACV vs RCV, roof-age clause.
  6. Save Matata Roofing's emergency line: (321) 444-5191.

After the storm

  1. Stay off the roof. Inspect from the ground first.
  2. Photograph all damage immediately, inside and out.
  3. Tarp active leaks within 24 hours (Florida policies require mitigation).
  4. File the insurance claim within 14 days.
  5. Schedule a free drone inspection — we share documentation with your adjuster.
  6. Never sign an Assignment of Benefits (AOB).
